The Prague gallery Art Mozaika Praha has prepared an exhibition of the prominent Czech portrait photographer Martin Beck. It will present almost a hundred photographs in five cycles, which the author has realized in his twenty years of artistic creation.

 

The exhibition is the largest exhibition of the author's portrait photography. It is divided into individual thematic units. The first one will present the most famous personalities of mostly artistic life that he had the honor to photograph. Among them we find Ozzy Osbourne, Charles Aznavour, the Dalai Lama, President Václav Havel and many others. The second set is dedicated to the most important Czech and Slovak actors. Third to other artists of various genres. The fourth theater and the last shows the overlaps of the author's work.

 

Martin Beck, B.Sc., was born on July 4, 1978 in Pardubice.

 

After studying at the SPŠPT, he graduated in opera singing at the Prague Conservatory, where he was accepted into the National Theater opera during his studies. He became a professional photographer in 2002. Since 2014, he has been the artistic photographer of the National Theater in Prague.

 

The author tries to look into the souls of the personalities he photographs through the viewfinder of his Hasselblad 503CW camera, but in a different way than usual. They try to capture them as they would like to see themselves.

 

Each photo is manually enlarged by the author in a darkroom. Everything is completely classic - digital technology does not enter the process at all. He develops his photographs on silver-bromide paper with a barite pad of the Foma or Ilford brands. This classic approach guarantees that each photo is a true original.

Event date: the opening will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 5 p.m. The exhibition itself will run from February 3 to March 12, 2023.
